The Challenge

IDEA Public Schools, first approved by the Texas State Board of Education a decade ago, is a family of charter schools dedicated to serving students in traditionally underserved communities. There are no admission requirements and each school operates under five core values and beliefs: No Excuses; Whatever it Takes; 100% Everyday; Sweating the Small Stuff; and Team and Family. The IDEA College Preparatory San Juan campus was founded in 2009, and the school was rated as "Exemplary" within its first year. And while under-performing students in general have the potential to grow by large margins, already high-achieving students have little room for growth. Despite their already-exemplary test scores, they have striven to further increase test scores and narrow existing achievement gaps.

The Solution

IDEA San Juan used Revolution K12's Algebra Readiness program during their after school program for both the 2009-10 and the 2010-11 school years. Nearly 250 6-8th graders participated in the program each year.

The Results

Despite excellent results, IDEA San Juan further increased their student achievement levels:

  • The percentage of students who met 2011 Math TAKS Standards increased from 93% to 95%
  • The percentage of Special Education students who met the 2011 Math TAKS Standards increased from 78% to 89%
